(1). Breast Feeding - Breast feeding is supposed to be the best for feeding your child. The mother's own milk contains colostrums, which is very beneficial to the baby's immune system. This is important for fighting against all the things that babies have to face while in this vulnerable state. Another thing to keep in mind is that, when the mother eats or drinks anything that causes discomfort in her, it can be passed on through her milk to the baby.
(2). Bottle Feeding - Always be sure that your bottles are sterilized and well-cleaned. You can kill most any germs by boiling the bottle for around 25 minutes.
(3). Sleeptime for Baby - For the baby to rest properly, you should make sure that you have a good firm mattress, clean sheets, and warm blankets. If your baby is sleeping with you, try to maintain a one-foot distance from it's nostrils. You should not keep loose materials on the bed, like shirts or cloths of any kind. If necessary, mosquito nets or some kind of covering to keep flies away from the baby are a good measure.
(4). Clothing - Cotton is a good fabric for the baby's summer clothing.
It breathes. When the baby is outside, be aware of any direct sun on its head. Wintertime has its own challenges, but wool is a good fabric here.
(5). Changing - Naturally the baby should be changed as soon as needed, and regularly. They will develop a pattern of bowel movements that you can adjust to, however, it's hardly ever chiseled in stone, so keeping aware is a must.
(6). Bathing - A good way to wash the baby's mouth is with cotton. A baby size tub that makes for easy washing should be found. Afterwards, some baby oil and cream is good for protecting the baby's skin. Then when the baby's dry you can apply some baby powder.
(7). Immunization - Good parenting involves being aware of all things necessary to avoid risk to the children. Immunization should never be neglected. Small Pox and Measles with BCG should take place within 3 months of age. And within the first TWO months they should have their first DPT, with the second and third ones one month apart. Then comes the MMR should be within one year of age, with the boosters following after the baby reaches four.
(8). Training and Education - Training and educational approaches can vary after observing the baby's habits and natural tendencies. But a rule of thumb is to begin to instill some sense of discipline before their regular teaching and training, which should start around three.
This is done by staying calm during stressful times. The child will pick up on it. If the mother is fretful, then so will the child be.
Of course, the best tip is to spend as much time with the baby as you can.
