The Impact of Stress on Today’s Family

Stress can affect an individual physically and mentally. Digestive problems. Sleep disorders, clenched jaw, grinding teeth, restlessness, increased heart rate, dizziness, nervousness, high blood pressure, lack of energy, suppression of immunity and fatigue are some of the physical symptoms of stress. Confusion, mental tardiness, occasional mind race, negative attitude, negative thoughts, constant worry, problems in focusing at given task, confusion and absentmindedness are some of the cognitive symptoms of stress. Frustration; irritation; jumpiness; feeling of over worked, overwhelmed or helplessness; irritation and lack of sense of humor are the emotional signs of stress.
The behavioral signs of stress are decreased desire for sex, feeling of loneliness, poor relations at work place, less contact with family and friends, avoiding people or people avoid the stressed person are the behavioral signs of stress.

The emotional signs of stress affect the family and relations and can create deeper problems. Of course the physical and the cognitive symptoms of a family member disturb the health of family. Job related stress is more in the present generation than it was a generation ago and job related stress affects the life to a large extent. Apart from affecting family the job stress affects the health of an individual.

Due to stress the relationships between the spouses get affected. The children get affected due to lack of interaction and lack of healthy relations between the parents. Children can not pay attention at school and don’t do well in school. They do not behave properly at home. This can cause behavioral problems in children.
The job related stress can be reduced by balancing the work and the family life, good relationship with colleagues and friends and optimistic view. Stress between husband and wife can be resolved by understanding each other or seeking professional help. To avoid health related stress a healthy diet and regular exercise are very important.

The stress can be due to many other reasons other than just job. It can be due to financial problems, family problems and bad health. But all kinds of stress affect family life. In such cases a professional help or learning stress relaxation techniques to manage stress are very important to deal with it. In any situation helping each other n the family is very important. The adults in the family should sit together and address the issues and try and find the solution for the problem creating stress. Understanding others problems is the key to solve them and protect children and the family from adverse effects.

    Stress is a fact of life, whether you’re a CEO, parent, student or all of the above. Stress can be felt in your mind and in your body too. Ideally, your mind and body are in sync, helping each other get through the challenges of the day. When the body and mind are not working in harmony, both suffer.
