When shopping for your baby’s clothes, consider purchasing organic cotton. It may be the trend to purchase organic clothing for your precious one, but that trend come with good reasoning.
Health Benefits
A baby’s skin is five time thinner than an adults. So they are more vulnerable when toxins come in contact with their skin. Non-organic cotton are treated with pesticides, so it’s best to choose toxic free materials instead. The cotton industry uses $2.6 billion dollars worth of pesticides on their cotton fields each year. With the top nine pesticides used, five of them are cancer-causing chemicals. If the budget is too high buying every single outfit organic. Choose the outfits that your baby will sleep in. That outfit would be something they will wear for the longest period of a time, so it would be beneficial to choose their night wear to be organic. However, buying everything organic does come with a cause worth paying for. So perhaps the number of outfits to buy for your baby can be reduced. Purchase fewer pricier organic outfits, rather than choosing whatever cute non-organic outfit you come across. The laundry may have to be more often without having a lot of back up clothes, but at least your baby is not exposed to toxins.
Organic cotton feels a lot softer than non-organic. So not only is your baby more sensitive to toxins, they would definitely enjoy softer materials more than an adult’s rougher skin. By purchasing organic cotton, you are encouraging the cotton industry to listen to their consumers by investing in safer methods to produce their product. The amount of pesticides used each year goes into the product as well as left behind in the environment. It is released into the air we breathe in and goes back in to our soil and water system. The less we choose to use chemicals, the healthier the environment gets and trickles down to our own personal health as well.
