Bullying on the first day: To fight or not to fight, that is the question!

Being the new kid on the block isn’t always easy, take it from someone that has been to six different schools in her lifetime. There are always going to be kids who will try and pick on you, but it’s only going to make you stronger if you can deal with it.

Being a tad too short in middle school, I used to get pushed around by this brown haired girl telling me I was too “slow” when we were running around doing our laps. I was always told by my parents never to show any emotion in those situations and just walk away. I used to come home crying about my day, but I never brought it up with any of the staff at school. A month later that girl didn’t bother trying to upset me anymore.

If you don’t bother with giving someone the attention they want, they won’t try and get it back from you after awhile. Think about it as neglecting a puppy. It wants to be loved and hugged but its owner won’t give it any, anyone could just come up to the poor thing and go, “Here boy!” and it’ll run away and go with them instead.

Never put up a fight with anyone, it ALWAYS leads to consequences. I have seen numerous cases of suspensions, people being expelled and sent to those special schools for troubled teens. Trust me, it is a place you don’t want to go to, those kids are there because of more serious cases including manslaughter, physical abuse, and you won’t get the same protection that you do at a regular public school.

If you hear about a fight/and or a life threatening situation that’s going to break out during lunch or after school, you should simply take a piece of paper, write down what you know about it and why it’s happening. Then, simply find a staff member that you can trust and put it in THEIR hands. Just fold it and mark it as being needed to be sent to the principal. I only suggest this because I know a lot of teenagers and kids would be afraid of going to tell someone themselves because of the fear that someone will see them. There’s no wrong doing in writing a quick note after finishing a test or essay, and it’s probably the best because no one would be paying attention at that point.

School shouldn’t be a scary experience, but sometimes it is. In my experience, I’ve been through bomb threats, killings, fights, and people pulling out knives. I’m not trying to tell you to kiss someone’s behind just so they won’t hurt you. But try and stay away from hanging out with people you even feel slightly concerned about.
